***UPDATES TO THIS PAGE ARE COMING SOON***
John BERNZOTT was born about 1817, in Alsace Lorraine, France and died around 1854 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. He married Anna Maria Stoeckel on October 30th, 1845 at Old St. Mary's Church (St Marian Kirche) on 13th Street in the Over the Rhine area of Cincinnati. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Joseph Ferneding. The information on John and Anna Maria Bernzott's marriage is courtesy of P. Stadler and J. Bernzott Hubler. Anna Maria, was born March 1st, 1829 in Alsace Lorraine, France to Balthin Stuckel, who was born about 1798 in Alsace Lorraine, France and Meary UNKNOWN, born about 1802 in France. Anna Maria died December 25th, 1908 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio and is buried in Section 8, Lot 88, Grave 2 at St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Bernard, Hamilton County, Ohio per research done by P. Stadler. Her name has been listed with several different spellings. Stuckel, Stackel and Stoeckel. The latter is how it appears on the baptismal record of her first born and my great, great grandfather. The children of John and Anna Marie BERNZOTT were:
John BERNZOTT born April 19th, 1846 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio
Joseph BERNZOTT born August 1st, 1847 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio

Catharine BERNZOTT born 1851 in Colerain Township, Hamilton County, Ohio
Mary BERNZOTT born February 11th, 1853 in Colerain Township, Hamilton County, Ohio
Anna Maria is listed in the 1860 Federal Census as Mary Wershy, living in Spencer Township, Jennings County, Indiana. She is living with her 2nd husband, August Wersky and (Bernzott) children John at age 14, Joseph age 12, Peter age 10, Catherine age 8 and two additional children from her marriage with August Werskey, Francisco age 4 and Margaretta age 2. The 1870 Federal Census record has Mary Wersky living in Vernon Township, Jennings County, Indiana living with August Wersky and the Bernzott children along with Francis, Maggie, Theresa, and twins, Frank and Nick, Elizabeth and George Wersky, who are her children with 2nd husband August WERSKY.
The 1890 Federal Census list Mary Wersky living at 18 E Court Street, Cincinnati, 9th ward, Hamilton County, Ohio with her son in law, Frank Moening. The census shows that of 13 liveborn children, 10 of those are alive in 1900.
Anna Marie Stoeckel Bernzott Wersky immigrated to the United States around age 13 in 1842. She is buried in the Moening plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, per research done by P. Stadler.
John BERNZOTT was born on April 19th, 1846 in Cincinnati, Ohio to John and Marie Stoeckel BERNZOTT and baptized on May 24,th 1846 at Old St. Mary's Church in Over the Rhine. His parents, John and Marie, are listed on a Federal Census as being from Alsace Lorraine, a region between France and Germany that has been battled over for many years between the two countries. I also remember when I was young, my grandmother telling me that the side of the family from Alsace Lorraine, were "winemakers". John BERNZOTT died at the age of 89 at his residence at 103 Ross Avenue, Bellvue, Kentucky on 5/27/1935 at the home of his daughter, Lenora Bernzott Munroe. His occupation listed on his death certificate was that of a varnisher, and his place of employment was the Globe Furniture Company where he worked until 1922.
The information on the Baptismal of John Bernzott is courtesy of P. Stadler

The 1850 Federal Census list Peter ECKER age 35, wife Elizabeth age 32, daughter Mary age 2 and daughter Caroline 9 months. John BERNZOTT and Elizabeth ECKER were married on 11/7/1872 at St. John the Baptist Church.

KETTLER/JORDAN
Ida KETTLER was the daughter of Edward KETTLER of Herzberg (Hannover) Germany and Henriette JORDAN, birthplace listed on the 1870 Federal Census as Prussia.. I was told by my Grandmother, that Henriette JORDAN's religion was Jewish. There is a marriage record of Edward KETTLER to Yetta JORDAN married on February 5th, 1863 at the Freeman Avenue United Church of Christ. Henriette Jordan arrived in the United States on May 6th, 1861 in Buffalo, NY on a ship named Kosmos. She arrived in the United States with her father, Johann H. Jordan who is listed as being 50 years old and a bricklayer. Johanna O. Jordan age 53 is listed as "died". It was told to me by my grandmother Henrietta Bernzott Mathes Rust, that the grandmother of Ida Kettler, Henriette Jordan's mother , died on the way to the United States, aboard the ship and was buried at sea. There is also listed a Fredrich W. Jordan, age 21, Hiedrid W. Jordan, age 20 and one other name I cannot make out. I can find no record of either Fredrich or Hiedrid after the trip, but they may have changed their first names or used a middle name. I have found a William Jordan and wife Magdalena in Cincinnati in the 1880's. Magdelena Jordan is the witness that signed the birth certificate of my great grandmother, Ida Kettler, daughter of Edward and Henriette Jordan. Henriette (Yetta) JORDAN was born in February of 1844 and died October 10th, 1903. Edward KETTLER was born about 1833 and died April 5th, 1894. Edward KETTLER arrived in the United States on the ship Johannes which sailed from Breman, Germany to Baltimore. His destination is listed on the ship manifest as Cincinnati, Ohio. His trade is listed as Armour (he was a gunsmith by trade) and his home is listed as Herzberg, Germany which is near Hannover.
I have the original document that states that Edward KETTLER came before the Probate Court of Hamilton County, Ohio on the 25th day of August 1862 and produced a certificate that on the 22nd day of December 1858 he declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States and forever renounce all allegiance and fidelity to the King of Hannover. The KETTLER family is listed in the 1870 Federal Census along with their other children, Emma and Henry. The occupation of Edward is that of gunsmith. I was told by my grandmother that the Kettler's from Hannover, Germany were gun makers. Ida was born in Ohio on November 12th, 1877 according to her baptismal record from St Johannis-Kirche in Cincinnati, Ohio. Other children born to Edward and Henriette that I have record of is Julius born about 1878/80 and William, born September 15th, 1875.. I found Henriette listed in the 1900 Federal Census under the last name of Kattler. She was listed as a widow and head of household. Listed with her was daughter Ida, age 22 occupation house keeper, son William, age 24, occupation carpenter and son Julius, age 20, occupation coffin maker. Ida was also listed on the 1900 Federal Census as a servant/housekeeper in the John Moerlein Household. Mr. Moerlein was listed as occupation of Pres. Brewer, I'm assuming of the Moerlein Brewery which was located in the Over the Rhine area of Cincinnati and most likey, John Moerlein was the son of Christian Moerlein, the founder of Christian Moerlein beer. William Kettler was later listed the 1920 Federal Census as living with his sister, Emma Kruelle and her children. I wonder if he had Muscular Dystrophy? There is a strain of Muscular Dystrophy that runs through the Jordan/Kettler line. Anyone with any information on this please contact me as soon as possible at sanrichardson@gmail.com
Most of Edward Kettler's family is buried in the Vine Street Hill Cemetery in section 7, lot 100 1/2. There is a Henrietta Kettler, granddaughter of Edward, born in 1885 age 1 year. I'm not sure which child of Edward and Henriette Kettler's she belongs to. I also have found a Henry Jordan and a William Jordan who was a Civil War Vet, buried in this same section and same lot. I am assuming they are relations of Henriette JORDAN KETTLER and are being researched. I have found a Henry JORDAN, born in Germany on the 1900 Federal Census. He was born August of 1845 and came to the United States in 1860. He was a cigar maker and lived in the Mill Creek Township of Hamilton County, Ohio. He is listed on the census as being 54 years old. The Henry Jordan that I have in the Vine Street Cemetery, died at age 55 in 1901. I believe this is the same person in the Vine Street Hill Cemetery and I believe he is the brother of Henriette JORDAN KETTLER.
