John Wesley STOKESBERRY was born on September 22nd, 1813 in Highland County, Ohio to John James STOKESBERRY and Jane MOORE and died June 24th, 1896 in Keokuk, Iowa. John was married to Mahala REYNOLDS on August 14th, 1834 in Morgan County, Indiana. Mahala was born on September 22, 1816 to Henry REYNOLDS and Mary JONES and died March 1859. The children of John Wesley STOKESBERY and Mahala REYNOLDS were: William, Elizabeth, Mary John W, James, Joseph, Eliza, Isaac, Mahala, Emily, Martha and Delilah STOKESBERRY. After the death of Mahala, John Wesley married Margaret UNKNOWN. According to the 1860 Federal Census which was taken in August of 1860, John Wesley (JW) STOKESBURY, head of house hold and wife Margaret had the following children at home. Mary age 20, John Wesley age 18, James age 16, Joseph age 15, Eliza age 13, Isaac age 11, Mahala age 9, Emily age 7, Martha age 4, Delilah age 2, Vienna age 2 months There are also 2 additional children listed on this census in the STOKESBERRY household. Clara Fishback, born in Ohio age 9 and Zilla V (Vantisia) Fishback, born in Iowa age 4. There is also an Elnora Fishback, age 12, living in the Hall household in German, Keokuk, Iowa according to the 1850 Federal Census records. The 1850 Federal Census taken in Mount Gilead, Morrow, Ohio, list a William P Fishback with wife Margaret, age 30 and child Elenora, age 2. It appears as if John Wesley's wife Margaret, was more then likely the widow of William Fishback when she married John Wesley STOKESBERRY. The 1870 Federal Census shows John Wesley and Margaret STOKESBERRY with children at home being Caroline (Mahala C) age 20, Clara age 19, Vantisia (Zilla V) age 14, Delilah age 13 and Vienna age 10. It has been noted that John Wesley STOKESBERRY entered Government land in Keokuk, Iowa as early as 1843 during a period when the northeastern portion of Iowa was largely wild and unsettled.
Delilah STOKESBERRY was born on June 8th, 1857 to John Wesley STOKESBERRY and Mahala REYNOLDS and died May 27th, 1899. Delilah married George Samuel RICHARDSON (See RICHARDSON page) on December 3rd, 1874. George was born on February 16th, 1838 in Delaware County, Indiana to Silas RICHARDSON and Catherine STORM (See RICHARDSON page) Prior to marrying Delilah, George Samuel RICHARDSON was married to Delilah's older sister, Mary STOKESBERRY on March 21st, 1861 in Keokuk, Iowa. Mary J STOKESBERRY was born in 1839 in Indiana. The child of Mary STOKESBERRY and George Samuel RICHARDSON was: Wilton RICHARDSON. The children of Delilah STOKESBERRY and George Samuel RICHARDSON were: George, Riley, John Frank, Charley S, James Edward, Melinda Estelle, Willie L, Oscar Ray, Gideon Clyde, Ella Mae, Lewis Earl, Katharine M and Joseph Dewey RICHARDSON.
